One fortunate ticket holder in Sydney’s southwest has won the $40 million Powerball jackpot.
The Fairfield man was told he had won the entire amount in Thursday night’s draw and had become an overnight multimillionaire, leaving him “speechless”.
The man first disregarded The Lott’s calls, and when he was informed of his enormous fortune, he became skeptical and assumed it was a joke.
The citizen of NSW, who wishes to remain anonymous, told lottery officials, “I didn’t even know I had a ticket into tonight’s draw until you called.”
“I used to get headaches, but I’m not even thinking about that anymore. As you’ve just made me grin, I hope you continue to make other people smile.”
He told officials that he intends to pay off his house and utilize a portion of the proceeds to assist others, but he’ll need to “let it sink in” before determining exactly what to do with the money.
“I know of many people who are in need of assistance. That will be my first action,” he declared.
If not, we’ll just have to wait and watch what transpires before it really sinks in. I honestly don’t know what to say—I’m at a loss for words!”
Two tickets won the $200 million Powerball jackpot last month, taking home a cool $100 million apiece.
A week later, following “an accidental purchase” of her ticket online, a woman from Queensland left with $5 million.
Over $552.15 million was won by 20 Powerball division-one winning entries in Australia last year.
