When a 72-year-old man lost contact with his group while hiking Mount Anne in southwest Tasmania, he tragically passed away.
Around 7:30 p.m. yesterday, police started looking for the man from Canberra, utilising a helicopter to search the challenging terrain of Southwest National Park.
Three hikers who were taking a day trip to Mount Anne became lost, and emergency services were summoned to the national park.
Overnight, a search and rescue crew was sent to the region.
The man’s backpack and body were found around the foot of Mount Anne.
According to the police, the man’s body will be recovered today using the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Police released a statement saying, “At this difficult time, our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones.”
