The identity of the young man who perished in an overnight horrific crash in Melbourne’s inner-east alongside his girlfriend has been revealed.
About eight o’clock at night, Marcus Watson, a resident of Toorak, was driving a BMW down Clendon Road when it climbed the curb and struck a concrete pillar.
The BMW wrapped around a tree as a result of the impact before catching fire.
Both Watson and his girlfriend, 22, passed away on the spot.
After hearing screams coming from the automobile, locals said 9News they raced to help, but they were powerless to stop it.
According to resident Fran Penfold, “I knew something really bad had happened when I heard the screech and a crash.”
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the automobile was completely on fire.
The firefighters needed over ten minutes to extinguish the fire.
As many drivers take to the roads for the long weekend, police have issued warnings about the risks of driving too fast and being tired.
Police are still investigating the incident to try and figure out exactly what transpired.
