After being accused of driving in a “culpably negligent manner” and caused the death of his Olympian wife Melissa Hoskins, professional cyclist Rohan Dennis is scheduled to appear in court for the first time next week.
On December 30, the mother of two was hit by a car that was reportedly driven by Mr. Dennis outside of their Medindie residence in Adelaide’s inner north.
According to earlier reports from the police, Ms. Hoskins was brought to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with significant injuries, where she passed away the following night.
Last month, on her 33rd birthday, a public memorial service was conducted in Adelaide, when the world champion cyclist’s family and teammates bid her farewell.
After an investigation, Mr. Dennis was taken into custody and charged with one count of driving without due care and one count of causing death by reckless driving, both of which are serious indictable offences.
According to court records that police were able to get from the Adelaide Magistrates Court, Mr. Dennis drove “recklessly or at a speed or in a manner which was dangerous to any person.”
“And by that culpable negligence, recklessness or other conduct, caused the death of Melissa Marie Dennis,” according to the paperwork.
On bond, Mr. Dennis is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday of next week.
