At the biggest prison in Queensland, a 25-year-old man was discovered dead.
In his cell at Woodford Correctional Centre, southwest of the Sunshine Coast, officers discovered the man unconscious at around seven in the morning.
Not long after, despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead.
According to Queensland Corrective Services, management, staff support, and welfare were all providing help to the responding police.
A spokeswoman stated, “Our condolences go to the man’s family and community.”
The Coroner is reviewing the man’s death as is customary, and Corrective Services will help police write a report.
A few days prior, a different man passed away in his jail cell following an apparent incident with another inmate.
About 6.45 p.m. on Friday, officers raced to the cell and gave the 42-year-old guy first assistance, but he passed away shortly after.
A homicide investigation has been launched by police into the mysterious death, and a crime scene has been proclaimed.
