Following an incident in a coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, a worker has passed away.
Yesterday afternoon, at BHP’s Saraji mine near Dysart in Central Queensland, a vehicle-related mishap claimed the worker’s life.
Just before 1:30 pm, paramedics confirmed, a man in his 20s was stuck between two cars.
He was brought to Dysart Hospital in a critical state, where he passed away subsequently.
The business released a statement saying, “Our deepest sympathies are with the person’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.”
Mitch Hughes, President of Mining and Energy Union Queensland, described it as the “worst news we can ever receive”.
“We are devastated that a coal miner is not returning home at the end of their shift,” he remarked.
“We send our condolences to friends and family.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to first responders and offer assistance to coworkers who could be affected negatively by the incidents.
“Union safety inspectors are at the site to conduct a thorough investigation, we will ensure no stone is left unturned in understanding what has occurred and preventing future fatalities and injuries.”
The company has alerted Resources Safety and Health Queensland and stated that it is collaborating with relevant authorities.
Counseling has been made available to the mine’s staff, and operations have been halted.
