Following claims that an Australian was killed in an airstrike in southern Lebanon, the Department of Foreign Affairs is looking into the matter immediately.
The Lebanese National News Agency and other local media reported that Sydney resident Ibrahim Bazzi, 27, his wife Shorouk Hammoud, and his brother Ali Bazzi were killed in a nocturnal raid on the town of Bint Jbeil.
Ibrahim had come to the town to see his wife, who had just obtained an Australian visa and intended to go to be with her spouse.
The official news agency stated that the airstrike, which demolished the house in the al-Dawra neighbourhood and injured a fourth, was carried out by an Israeli warplane.
Whether the missile was fired by the Israel Defence Forces cannot be confirmed by Mark News.
Several friends and family members reported that they were shocked to learn of the news early this morning.
In 2021, Ibrahim emigrated to Australia and settled in Bexley, a suburb of Sydney, together with his sister and brother-in-law.
Prior to being promoted to site supervisor, he was employed as a worker.
Tonight, his brother-in-law is taking a trip to Lebanon to spend time with their family.
The reports are being verified immediately by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of reports an Australian citizen has died in Lebanon and is seeking confirmation,” said a spokesperson.
