A 14-year-old boy’s body has been located after he vanished in a boating accident on Queensland’s Fraser Coast.
At approximately 10.15 a.m. today, the teenager, who was water tubing behind a boat on the Mary River at Owanyilla, near Maryborough, fell into the water, according to the police. His disappearance led to a multi-agency search and rescue operation.
At 10.45 am, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter, stationed in Bundaberg, was summoned to the scene of the search.
The adolescent was not seen by the chopper crew, who returned to base at 1:30 pm, according to RACQ LifeFlight Rescue.
Throughout the afternoon, searchers, police, and volunteers from the State Emergency Service conducted searches.
His body was found by police divers shortly after six o’clock, and the public was informed later that night.
“Police are currently assisting the boy’s family who have requested privacy during this difficult time,” police stated.
Authorities were getting ready to submit a report to the coroner regarding the non-suspicious death.
Another multi-agency search was underway at Lennox Head, in New South Wales, across the border. At Main Beach this afternoon, a man vanished into the water.
