In Melbourne’s northwest, a man has been charged with repeatedly stomping on the skull of another man.
Unsettling video of the alleged incident has surfaced, allegedly depicting the assault on a 34-year-old on Wednesday at 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Alfrieda Street and Main Road West in St. Albans.
After two minutes of fighting, the victim was pulled unconscious into a gutter in front of shocked onlookers.
Investigating whether the individuals knew one another or whether it was a random attack is the focus of Victoria Police.
Workers in the neighbourhood reported an increase in violence in the St. Albans area, and many expressed concern for their safety.
“It’s quite distressing,” a nearby dealer said. This type of incident occurs frequently in the vicinity.
“Sometimes at night, we don’t feel safe at all when we see certain types of people.”
Following his arrest, the 26-year-old Kings Park resident was accused of narcotics possession and affray.
Next Thursday, he will appear in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court.
When a driver intervened and punched him until he stopped, the horrific attack came to an end.
The Altona victim was transported in a serious but stable state to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
