As her father drove back to their north Melbourne home last night, he crashed his car into a youngster who died instantly.
Just before 8:30 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a residence on Esteem Road in Craigieburn following allegations that a car had struck a 17-month-old child.
Despite the paramedics’ best efforts, the youngster was not able to be saved.
Pemba Kemal, a neighbour, claimed to have seen the aftermath.
Kemal exclaimed, “Oh, very bad, very bad.”
“I saw the fire engine, ambulance, police, you know, came all together, all the street full.”
The driver of the car was the toddler’s 36-year-old father.
Police questioned him, and a forensic examination was done on the Toyota.
No charges have been made, but police are looking into what may have caused the toddler to die.
Glenn Weir, assistant commissioner of Victoria Police, stated that first responders, neighbours, friends, and family are all affected by the death.
“It’s tragic any time of the year, but coming into Christmas that is really, really something that is really going to be hard to deal with,” he stated.
The family, according to neighbours, kept to themselves, and the little girl was often running about the street and beaming with happiness.
The community has been shocked by her demise.
Manjinder Kahlon, a neighbour, described what happened as “a really unfortunate thing.”
“It’s a very quiet street and I’m with little kids.”
“Something happening like that, it’s very unfortunate.”
