Almost two weeks after she was reportedly sexually raped inside an aged care facility on the NSW Central Coast, a 90-year-old woman passed away in hospital.
According to police, on November 15, at around 12.40 am, a guy broke into the Uniting Nareen Gardens facility in Bateau Bay and assaulted and sexually abused a woman.
She was taken to the hospital in a hurry after suffering severe injuries.
She died this morning after the injuries she allegedly sustained to her arms grew infected.
Uniting Nareen Gardens Residential Aged Care released a statement saying, “Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones and we have passed on condolences to them on behalf of all at our home at Bateau Bay and the whole of uniting.”
On November 17, detectives detained Brett Anthony Crawford after executing a search warrant at a residence in The Entrance.
The 34-year-old was accused of a number of offenses, including aggravated sexual assault, causing actual bodily harm with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with the victim, and aggravated break and enter.
After her death, police will choose whether to upgrade his charges depending on the results of the post-mortem examination.
He stays incarcerated until his upcoming eight-week court date.
