Due to difficulties with her intellectual limitations, the 12-year-old girl who is charged with fatally stabbing a lady shouldn’t be kept in juvenile custody, according to her attorney.
The 37-year-old woman’s body was discovered in an apartment in Melbourne’s inner district of Footscray on Thursday morning at around two in the morning. The girl was taken into custody and charged with murder.
Her attorney claimed that her incarceration at a juvenile facility was “inappropriate” when she appeared in children’s court on Friday.
He talked about the girl’s custody management. During her remand, the youngster had to deal with a “raft” of issues, including intellectual problems like anxiety, ADHD, and autism.
She will be evaluated while she is in custody to see whether she needs any more care.
The defence also indicated that they intended to petition the Supreme Court for their client’s bail in order to look into ways to ensure her safe and secure welfare, such as looking into boarding or communal living options.
The magistrate stated he thought the 12-week delay requested by the prosecutor was excessive.
“Given the unique nature of this case and custody, the period should be shorter,” he stated.
“Where am I going?” the girl inquired as the magistrate delivered his orders. The girl has been placed under remand in detention and is scheduled to appear via video connection for an additional case hearing on November 24.
