The small child was allegedly struck by a man on an electric scooter, breaking her leg, necessitating surgery.
At around 10 a.m., police were notified that a man lost control of his vehicle and collided with a four-year-old child, breaking her leg, at a retail center on Main Road in Cardiff.
The individual, according to the police, grabbed his scooter right away and fled the area.
The girl also suffered a cut on her face, which paramedics attended to before transporting her, in stable condition, to John Hunter Hospital.
Officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District apprehended a man at Belmont Police Station on Friday at 1:30 p.m. after making investigations and releasing a public information request.
The 37-year-old was accused of both riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk and causing great bodily harm via negligence.
Conditional bail was given to him so he could appear in Belmont Local Court later this month.
