A man brandishing an axe is said to have damaged numerous cars from three different car shops in Melbourne, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.
Investigators are attempting to determine what drove the man to “brazenly” use an axe to shatter numerous automobiles on November 2 in the southeast suburb of Glen Waverley.
The culprit was captured on camera wielding the axe at multiple auto dealerships situated near Springvale Road.
Between 6 and 8 a.m., according to the police, 20 premium cars sustained damage. After that, the man fled the scene.
Windscreens were broken, and several panels, bonnets, and fenders were also knocked up.
Waverley BMW’s Andrew Moschini described it as a truly disheartening crime.
“In the middle of the night, nothing better to do, it’s really frustrating that someone could do such a thing,” he said.
“Lucky it wasn’t in business hours with customers around or employees.”
The man attacked a Mazda dealership less than two km away before attacking the BMW dealership.
“When I learned the news, I was astounded,” stated Mark Barratt of Garry and Warren Smith Mazda.
“We really can’t see the sense in it, or the purpose and don’t know the reason.”
Senior Constable Bassett of the Victoria Police noted that the criminal seemed “methodical” in his tactics.
“It’s quite brazen, it’s not something that we want occurring in the community,” he stated.
“We do not wish for individuals to be seen with axes.
“He appears to be quite methodical but for what motivated him – we are trying to establish that.”
The perpetrator’s description includes black curly hair and a height of roughly 175 cm. He was dressed in trousers and slide shoes, a tan sweater.
