The moment a man pulled a gun on another driver during an attempted carjacking in Melbourne’s southeast earlier this year was caught on camera by CCTV.
Authorities claim a 22-year-old man was tailgated by another man in a white, pilfered Toyota C-HR SUV while he was travelling on the Princes Highway in a 2012 white Volkswagen Passat.
The man was subsequently forced to stop close to a Doveton industrial area at around one in the morning on July 8 after the stolen car passed his Volkswagen on Power Road.
Before they ambushed the driver, 22, and demanded that he get out of his car, police believe the driver of the Toyota and three of his passengers got out of the car.
In the video, the victim is seen reversing his vehicle and driving away when the suspected shooter fired a single shot through the man’s windscreen. The driver, who was unharmed in the incident, was not hit by the bullet.
Senior Constable Daniel Cousins of Victoria Police stated that the victim was just missed by the bullet.
Saying, “The victim is distressed,” he spoke.
“When gunfire occurs in a public place, it can be frightening for bystanders.
“It isn’t perfect. The victim was very nearly wounded by the gunshot.” An hour later, the police stated, the offending vehicle was discovered burned out some 12 km distant in Harkaway.
A computer-generated picture of a man that investigators wish to talk with regarding the attempted carjacking has been made public.
He is characterised as a middle-aged man with a medium build, Middle Eastern appearance, glasses, a grey Nike hoodie, and black trousers.
