After becoming stuck beneath an elevator at a school on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, a 10-year-old child passed away.
According to police, a 10-year-old kid was discovered trapped under a lift at St. Lucy’s School in Wahroonga, prompting the call for emergency services.
While attempting to extricate the youngster from beneath the elevator, Fire and Rescue NSW personnel lost him at the site.
“Police have established a crime scene and a recovery operation is continuing,” police stated.
In a message to the media, a school representative confirmed the tragedy and announced that the school would be shuttered indefinitely.
“St Lucy’s School is very sad to confirm the tragic death of one of our students this afternoon,” it read.
We are unable to provide any additional statements at this time, however we are working with the investigating police.
“Students will not be able to access the school until further notice.
“We ask for privacy and space for our staff and families to grieve at this difficult time as we remember our beautiful student.”
We’ll write out a report for the coroner.According to the school’s website, St. Lucy’s School serves students with a variety of disabilities in elementary and high school.
