An individual from Sydney, aged 22, who was not known to the police, has been accused of killing Melbourne underworld leader Gavin “Capable” Preston by shooting him fatally.
About 10.20 a.m. on September 9, two men wearing black clothing opened fire on Preston and Abbas “AJ” Maghnie, the late crime lord Nabil Maghnie’s son, at a cafe in Keilor.
Maghnie was struck in the stomach and rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, while Preston passed away at the spot.
Despite the fact that other customers were present, nobody else was hurt.
According to the police, the incident appeared to be targeted.
Investigators carried out warrant executions at residential premises in the southwest Sydney suburbs of Bradbury, Yagoona, and Campbelltown starting at 6 a.m. today.
Later this morning, the 22-year-old Bradbury man was charged following his incident-free arrest.
The man will appear in court in NSW today, according to a Victoria Police update, albeit the exact time has not yet been set.It is expected that he will be extradited to Victoria early tomorrow morning.
When he is taken into the custody of Victoria Police, he may be charged with other crimes.Superintendent Janet Stevenson of the Victoria Police stated, “This is a significant arrest and an important step forward.”
However, she declared that the inquiry was “far from over”.
According to Stevenson, there is currently no known reason for the shooting, although it is not thought to be connected to a recent spate of arson assaults on Melbourne tobacco shops.
She expressed her gratitude to NSW Police and the general public for helping with the “tough” probe. The arrest has been reported to Preston’s family.
