After their rig got caught on a rock in the waters close to Queenscliff in Victoria, three men were rescued.
On Thursday night, in the choppy waters off Point Lonsdale, the men were saved.
Before being rescued, the three left the boat and stood on rocks amid four-meter waves for two hours.
Inspector James Dalton of the Water Police declared them to be “in grave danger.”
“We were able to get a rope to them and eventually tow the life raft into deeper water,” Dalton recalled.
Their multimillion-dollar fibreglass Port Phillip Sea Pilots craft was shattered into fragments, and its cleanup could take many days.
According to Port Phillip Sea Pilots Jon Dicker, “we’re just not sure yet as to what exactly went wrong there and why they ended up there.” No injuries befell the crew.
