A guy was discovered dead in a Sydney apartment block this morning after it caught fire.
Although he has not been formally named, the man, who is in his 60s, is thought to be one of the tenants of the third-floor flat.
Later this week, an autopsy will verify his identification.
As they try to determine what started the fire, investigators have formed a crime scene.
The building’s fifteen tenants were evacuated, and they will be without a place to live until it is secure.
The Red Cross Foundation is attempting to find alternate housing.
According to Fire and Rescue New South Wales, the fire started on the third level of the apartment building and caused part of the building and roof to fall.
One resident added, “We don’t know [if everyone left], we just hope no one is in there because they are all our neighbours and we know them.”
Up to 30 firefighters arrived at the Darlington fire scene on Abercrombie Street.
Fire had damaged the flat and obstructed entry, making it impossible for fire crews to enter the structure to put out the fire.
Since then, the fire has been put out.
Fire and Rescue NSW stated, “We haven’t been able to perform a comprehensive search therefore we can’t claim we have an all-clear at this time.
Abercrombie Street, Ivy Street, Lawson Street, and Gibbons Street are a some of the streets adjacent to Redfern station that are still blocked off.
No train lines or rail operations at adjacent Redfern Station were impacted by the fire.
