Three teens appeared in court after being accused of trying to kill a security guard on the Gold Coast with a machete.
Following the alleged attack on Friday morning at 7.45am outside Westfield Shopping Centre in Helensvale, a 57-year-old man is still being treated in the hospital for injuries to his abdomen and legs.
Police claim that he was being attacked while removing the trio of teenagers—aged 19, 17, and 13—from the center when he was stabbed many times.
The group allegedly drove off in a black Holden that had been stolen.
On Saturday, Kai Matthew Collins, 19, appeared before the Southport Magistrates Court on charges of attempted murder, violent robbery, breaking and entering, and illegal use of a motor vehicle.
When Mr. Collins arrived, his attorney Vered Turner did not request bail instead he requested police to provide CCTV footage of the alleged assault.
The case was postponed until September 5 because Mr. Collins’ appearance was not necessary.
Additionally charged with attempted murder were a 13-year-old Upper Coomera girl and a 17-year-old Beenleigh male who appeared in court on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the case involving the 17-year-old was postponed for a bail application, while the case involving the 13-year-old was postponed until next month.
