The family’s home on Russell Island in Brisbane’s southeast was completely destroyed by a big fire this morning, and five young children and their 34-year-old father are thought to be dead.
According to Queensland Police Superintendent Mat Kelly, their mother, who is 28 years old, managed to escape the fire.
Kelly affirmed that there was no indication of any suspicious activity surrounding the fire, which broke out at many homes on Russell Island’s Todman Street.
According to the police, the missing siblings ranged in age from 3 to 11 and included four-year-old twin boys.
Kelly told the media, “The house has been completely destroyed by fire.”
“One man sacrificed his life, and these young lads may have grown up to be men.
We continue to speak with this sad woman who has lost her entire family, she says.
The house caught fire around 6.20 a.m. this morning, and massive plumes of smoke were visible pouring into the sky.
Multiple triple zero calls prompted firefighters to race to the location, where they saw the mother pleading for assistance.
They arrived to find a lady in distress and a residence that was completely on fire, Kelly added.
Paramedics treated nine people on the spot, while two others were sent to Redlands Hospital in stable condition.
Kelly claimed that the tragedy has shocked the neighborhood.
Russell Island is a tiny, tightly knit community, he claimed.
“They all support each other, and they are devastated by this.”
One of the buildings is still burning while the other two have fully collapsed.
While the hunt for the missing persons continues, police have constructed a crime scene.
