A mother has been granted bail after being charged with criminal neglect after it was claimed that police discovered her 18-month-old daughter sitting in a diaper that was overflowing with live maggots.
In front of the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today, Shay Ellen Bilney was granted home detention bail with the restriction that she not approach minors.
After visiting a residence on the Eyre Peninsula on July 21, officers detained the 24-year-old.
According to authorities, the youngster in her care was brought to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The 18-month-old’s skin allegedly had infected wounds from where the velcro had been when her diaper was removed, according to the police.
In December, Bilney will be up in front of the Port Augusta Magistrates Court.
