In Noosa Heads, an 87-year-old man has passed away after allegedly being attacked while out for a morning stroll close to Main Beach.
A 27-year-old male was found nearby by police, who have taken him into custody to help in their inquiries.
It is assumed that the two guys do not know one another, and authorities claim that the attack was random.
Bystanders discovered an 87-year-old male unconscious and with injuries consistent with being assaulted at around 6 a.m. Unfortunately, the male victim passed away there,” Inspector Chris Toohey, a detective on the Sunshine Coast, said.
The gruesome scene at the well-known tourist destination stunned beachgoers.
Local Noosa resident Caroline Clarke stated, “I just arrived 10 minutes after it happened, the guy was bleeding, and CPR was being done on him when we arrived.”
“A nurse friend of mine was performing CPR. He was resting on the ground when they just happened to come upon him.
The 87-year-old man’s body was discovered close to the boardwalk at Noosa Woods on the northern end of Hastings Street, according to police, who said he was a local of the Noosa region.
A senior citizen going for a morning walk is in grave circumstances. He was laying face-up on the concrete path with fairly substantial facial injuries, according to Detective Inspector Toohey.
Along sections of Main Beach and into the Noosa Woods parking lot, a sizable crime scene has been created. Before it was sealed off, people who had parked there were directed to their cars.
Police divers searched the water around Main Beach and the rocks close to the first groyne while a drone was also launched.
According to police, the 27-year-old male who is currently in arrest was found roughly 100 meters away from the assault’s scene.
“[I] just saw a naked guy along the beach and he got arrested and they put a towel around him and put him in the paddy wagon,” Ms. Clarke recalled.
Beachgoer Askin Battley told “We saw a policeman taking a picture of a guy who had bloody cloth, kind of like a face towel, that was just kind of covered in blood.”
