In connection with the death of a baby girl in central western New South Wales five years ago, a 37-year-old man has been charged with murder.
On July 23, 2018, at around 10 am, emergency personnel were called to a home in the rural community of Binnaway because a nine-month-old baby girl was reportedly not breathing.
Paramedics transported her to Coonabarabran Hospital, but she passed away soon after.
Strike Force King was established by detectives from the Orana Mid-Western Police District in 2018 to look into the “suspicious” circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
At the moment, a crime scene was formed and analyzed by trained forensic officers.
Five years ago, authorities conducted significant investigations; however, no one had been charged in relation to the death.
Following the discovery of new information that prompted investigators to investigate a Binnaway residence last week, NSW Police said on Thursday that a 37-year-old man has been charged with murder.
On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, “after receiving new information, strike force officers executed a crime scene warrant at a home at Binnaway,” according to a statement from the police.
Detectives detained a 37-year-old male at a Bowraville house at 9.45 a.m. today “following further inquiries.”
The man was brought to the Macksville Police Station, where he was denied bail and told to show up in court on Thursday.
The breakthrough in the case comes after police last week made a public appeal, pleading with anyone with information regarding the baby’s passing to come forward.
