Today in Vietnam, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will hold meetings with influential figures to explore boosting trade and economic connections.
On Saturday, Albanese arrived in Hanoi where he was welcomed by the press and citizens while enjoying traditional foods at a banh mi restaurant.
Along with Pham Minh Chinh, the general secretary of the Communist Party, the president, and the head of the national parliament, he will meet with them today.
The journey represents a significant turning point in Australia and Vietnam’s long-standing diplomatic relationship.
As the prime minister of Australia, Albanese declared, “I’m delighted to be here as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relationship.”
We have been steadfast friends for 50 years, and we are strategic partners.
Along with security and defence, the leaders of Vietnam, which borders China, will also be meeting with the prime minister.
“(Australia) and Vietnam share a view on the South China Sea, and that the Convention on the Law of the Sea needs to be upheld and maintained,” he told the reporters in Hanoi.
Albanese is anticipated to return to Australia early tomorrow.
