Ben Roberts-Smith, a Victoria Cross recipient, will soon discover whether his defamation action involving war crimes reports has been successful, some 11 months after his protracted trial.
The former SAS corporal filed a federal court lawsuit against The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Canberra Times in response to articles published in 2018 that alleged he had committed war crimes in Afghanistan, including murder, acts of bullying, and domestic violence.
The 43-year-old has refuted all accusations of misbehaviour, and the media has supported their veracity.
This morning in Sydney, Ben Roberts-Smith appears at the NSW Supreme Courts.
After eight days of final arguments, the trial was over after more than a year on July 27, 2022.
On June 1, Justice Anthony Besanko will issue his decision.
