After a man was shot dead in an allegedly stolen car in Melbourne’s northwest overnight, three men are on the run.
At Taylors Hill, a shot was fired through the front windscreen of one of the men’s stolen BMW sedans and into the upper body of the passenger.
About 11.30 p.m., the driver dialled triple zero for help before leaving the scene on foot.
Before the alleged shooting, police think the stolen BMW automobile was pursuing a white Mitsubishi Lancer.
The BMW then arrived in front of them after the Mitsubishi struck several bollards on Grange Terrace.
Detective Acting Inspector Nigel L’Estrange reported that “the driver of the white Lancer has exited the vehicle with the firearm and fired a shot through the front windscreen of the black BMW.”
The Mitsubishi’s two drivers—the shooter and his companion—left on foot as the BMW took off.
They then talked to locals and inquired about ways to leave the area.
It’s assumed that the BMW travelled to Vaucluse Boulevard and dialled triple zero.
The individual, whose identity is unknown, was attended to by ambulance personnel at the scene, but he later passed away from his wounds.
L’Estrange stated that although police had not yet determined the precise facts surrounding the shooting, they believed the involved persons were acquainted.
“This was not a random attack,” he declared.
Police are asking anyone with information or who saw the incident to call them.
