After eluding investigators for more than ten years, Victoria police have prosecuted an alleged online scammer.
According to the police, the alleged con artist contacted people looking for rental properties online and promised them a property before requesting rent and a bond to secure the house.
Once the bond and rent were paid to him, he allegedly broke off all contact with them.
According to police, he has allegedly been operating this scam since 2011.
The 38-year-old man was apprehended in Melbourne’s Caufield neighbourhood after eluding authorities for more than ten years.
The suspected con artist was charged with various charges of gaining property by fraud and obtaining a financial benefit by deception and was wanted on numerous arrest warrants.
The individual was also accused of resisting arrest and eight counts of alleged fraud.
On April 20, he will appear in Melbourne Magistrates court after being remanded.
