Western sanctions target common Russians rather than the leadership, according to Medvedev

Russian Presidential First Deputy in Military-Industrial Commission and Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev.

Russian Security Council Vice Chairman Dmitry Medvedev claimed that the West is clearly fighting against the people of Russia by enforcing its anti-Russian sanctions.

Medvedev claimed that the West is forcing Russians to pay inflated prices for products, blocking their bank cards, and limiting their ability to travel internationally in an interview with members of the Russian media, including TASS and users of the social network VKontakte.

“As a result, it is undeniably clear that Western nations are at odds with residents of our nation. Everyone should be aware that the West despises our culture and people. They detest all of us, not just a few government officials, and we must never forget this, he said.

In addition, Medvedev expressed astonishment at “the degree of cynicism” exhibited by the West.

“We are punishing the Russian regime, they claim. The president and the rest of his staff ought to face consequences. I see now that they are permitted to do so. Who, however, is the actual subject of those sanctions? It’s our country’s citizens, who may even have divergent views about the news of the day and have no involvement in politics directly,” the Russian official said.
