Imran Khan’s former arrest warrants are revoked by a Pakistani court

According to Khan’s attorney, Imran Khan’s arrest warrants in a corruption case have been revoked by a Pakistani court.

The court in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, deferred the hearing and ordered the former prime minister to ensure his appearance at the next hearing on March 30, according to Faisal Fareed Chaudhry, a member of Khan’s legal team.

After Khan made a formal court appearance, the warrants were canceled. During Saturday’s clashes between the police and supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Khan’s car made it to the courthouse’s gate.

Imran Khan was attempting to enter the court from outside the building in his car, according to Chaudhry. Police used brutal force against his supporters while doing their best to prevent him from accessing the court.

On Saturday morning, police in Lahore attacked Khan’s home and forced through the front gate while engaging PTI supporters in combat. More than 60 persons were detained, according to police.

Inspector General of the Punjab Police Usman Anwar reported that after conducting a search, officials found a number of firearms, including Klashnikov guns, as well as many rounds of ammunition.

Anwar claimed during a press conference in Lahore that PTI workers inside the building fired shots at the police.

The raid included a large police contingent, as well as large equipment and water cannons. The cops were seen using cranes to open the house’s main gate before charging at the PTI employees who were blocking their entry with batons.

Khan denounced the raid and claimed that it was conducted while his wife was at home alone.

Bushra Begum was left alone as Punjab police launched an assault on Khan’s home in Zaman Park, according to a tweet from Khan. What legal authority are they acting upon?

After the former prime minister failed to show up for court, police tried to arrest him, which resulted in fights between police and Khan’s supporters. Days later, there was a dramatic standoff at Khan’s Lahore home.

As Khan arrived at the Judicial Complex in Islamabad on Saturday, there were additional altercations between police and PTI supporters.

Akbar Nasir Khan, the head of the Islamabad Police, claimed that PTI members attacked officers “without any provocation” by throwing stones and using tear gas.

According to the official, tear gas was used by the police.

He claimed that Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, had traveled so far in peace and comfort. The police continued to act with prudence, but as soon as the man’s convoy got close to the court, the cops started getting stoned.

The PTI accused the police of attempting to cause “chaos” after posting video of tear gas being shot.

Imran Khan’s vehicles and caravan are being shelled by the Islamabad Police without cause, the Tehreek-e-Insaf stated in Urdu on its Twitter page. Imran Khan is not intended to appear in court; rather, pandemonium is intended to be caused.

Khan claimed he was denied entry to the court in an audio message distributed by his team later on Saturday.

I’ve been outside the court for 15 minutes, said Khan. “I’m doing everything I can to get in, but the police have fired tear gas, set up barriers, and placed containers. They appear to not want me to enter the courtroom.

Police make way for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, center, outside a court in Lahore, Pakistan, March 17, 2023. The court suspended an arrest warrant for Khan, giving him a reprieve to travel to Islamabad and face charges in a graft case.

The Pakistani Election Commission has filed a corruption investigation against Khan.

The electoral watchdog has charged him with failing to disclose gifts or sales proceeds he received while serving as prime minister from 2018 to 2022.

Khan has refuted the accusations and said they are made for political reasons.

The former prime minister has expressed worry that the government is preparing to detain him, a move he claims is intended to prevent him from running in this year’s elections.

On Saturday, Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued directives limiting live coverage of events occurring away from the Islamabad Judicial Complex, the location of Khan’s court appearance.

The watchdog said in a statement that it had “observed with concern” that satellite TV channels were “showing live footages/images of a violent mob, attacks on police and law enforcing agencies” in reference to the clashes between PTI workers and police that occurred close to Khan’s residence in Lahore.

Almost immediately after Khan was ousted from office by a legislative vote last year, the legal processes against him started. Since then, he has pushed for immediate elections and participated in numerous nationwide protests, including one where he was shot and injured.
