According to reports, the husband of a Victorian woman whose body was discovered in a wheelie bin admitted his suspected murder to her Indian parents.
Swetha Madhagani, a 35-year-old mother from Point Cook, was discovered dead on Saturday inside a wheelie bin on a remote dirt road in Buckley, 30 minutes west of Geelong.
According to Victoria Police, they think Ashok Raj Varikuppala, the woman’s husband, left the country.
It is thought that Varikuppala brought the couple’s infant kid to his in-laws’ Hyderabad, a city in southern India.
He allegedly admitted to Swetha’s parents that he had suffocated their daughter when they arrived.
He allegedly informed them, “I am sorry for what I did, Chaithanya Swetha is no more, I killed her.”
It was an accident; I didn’t mean to kill her. After a fight, I put my palm over her mouth and nose, causing her to suffocate to death.”
According to reports, he declared his desire to go back to Australia and give up.
After supposedly giving their four-year-old boy to her, he apparently departed.
Swetha’s body was found on the side of the road after her sister reportedly informed Australian police from India.
Investigators think Varikuppala is still in India, but no formal request for extradition has been made.
There have been no takedowns.
The 38-year-old will be arrested upon arrival in Australia if he takes a plane back there.
Victoria Police have not disclosed anything about the investigation’s progress.
“Due to the seriousness of the matter, there is much we unfortunately cannot comment on as we don’t want to jeopardise the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.
“This includes information about any ongoing enquiries or liaison with any other agencies here in Australia or internationally, or any liaison with the victim’s family.”
Although Swetha’s friends and family are gathering money to send her remains to India for burial, they have stated that they are still awaiting word from a funeral director regarding her eligibility for repatriation.
