Two bikers were allegedly run down by a stolen automobile in Melbourne’s southeast last week, leading to the arrest of two youths, one of whom is facing over a dozen charges.
Social media users shared video footage of the accidents, seemingly showing a car slamming into the bikes before taking off.
The two guys, one 51 years old and the other 72, were reportedly struck by lightning in the early hours of January 23 while riding their bikes at separate locations along Beach Road in Cheltenham and Beaumaris. Both men sustained significant injuries.
Officers soon discovered a Holden Astra in Black Rock, which they claim was taken two days before to being used in the crimes.
While the 51-year-old was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, the elder man remains there in a stable but dangerous condition.
Two 16-year-old lads were taken into custody by police for the incident at approximately 7:30 p.m. yesterday.
While the other, the suspected driver who struck the bicycles, was charged with 14 crimes, the other is anticipated to face charges related to the purported theft of the Holden Astra.
In a statement this morning, police said, “Police will allege a Clyde North boy was driving the stolen vehicle when it struck the cyclists and failed to stop to render assistance.”
“He was accused of 14 counts, including driving in a risky manner, reckless behaviour risking life, and deliberate serious injury.
at addition, he was charged with aggravated burglary at Bluegrass Close, Waterways, on January 26 and robbery at a shopping complex on the Nepean Highway, Cheltenham, on January 26.
“He will appear in a children’s court later today.”
More young individuals engaged in the collisions with the bikers are still being sought for by the police.
