After an allegedly homophobic tweet from Mark Latham on March 30, Sydney MP Alex Greenwich says he intends to sue Latham and One Nation NSW.
Greenwich stated in a statement this morning that the tweet was “defamatory and homophobic” before it was removed after several hours.
The independent MP threatened to file a slander lawsuit against Latham unless the latter apologized and “amends.”
Greenwich acknowledged in his statement that he had reported vilification to police and to the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW.
Greenwich pronounced, “Enough is enough.”
“I’ve been openly gay in public life for 15 years, and I’ve served in the NSW Parliament for more than 10 years. But I’ve never experienced such a homophobic, sexualized attack that subjected me to extreme abuse based on my sexuality.”
Additionally, Greenwich has asked his attorneys to contact Twitter “in relation to its provision of a platform that freely allows extreme homophobia, transphobia, racism, and religious bigotry.”
Australians who identify as LGBTQIA+ should not have to put up with harassment that disparages their sexuality, character, or capacity for employment in 2023, according to Greenwich.
