A 50-person altercation that broke out overnight in Melbourne’s south-west resulted in two men suffering “significant head injuries” and another four being treated in hospitals.
A party of about 30 individuals were reportedly having a “nice barbecue after work” at a warehouse in Laverton when, according to police, another group of roughly 20 people arrived somewhere between nine and ten o’clock.
The two sides got into a fight right away, and a big melee broke out that left a number of individuals gravely hurt.
Detectives are still unable to ascertain “why the other party has attended, or the relationship between the two parties,” according to police, who claim there is no apparent motive for the altercation.
“It’s obviously of great concern to us for something like this to happen, with six victims overall, for people who were just meant to be having a nice barbecue after work,” Detective Senior Constable Erin Hardie said.
“It’s clearly of significant concern for us to find out who was engaged in that for two people to be hurt in such a way.
“At this time, we don’t know the other party’s motivation, why they came, or how the two parties are related.
Even though our investigations are still ongoing, some calls indicate that there were between 40 and 50 people present.Significant brain injuries were suffered by them.
Following the altercation, according to Hardie, “planks of wood” and other objects that may have been used as weapons were discovered in the area.
Many of those hurt in the incident, according to her, presented themselves to “various hospitals” throughout the city.
Currently hospitalized with critical wounds are a 36-year-old Williams Landing man, a 28-year-old Tarneit, and a 35-year-old Tarneit man.
She stated, “Today it’s just a matter of examining the crime scene and attempting to determine precisely what happened.
“We’ll be looking through the CCTV at a number of businesses.”Contact the police or Crime Stoppers if anyone has seen or knows anything.
