Police in New South Wales have raised the alarm over an increase in gang-related kidnappings, and they have confirmed that two men have been prosecuted in connection with an alleged carpark kidnapping of a couple that left one man’s finger amputated.
The alleged kidnapping of the man and lady took place in a parking lot in Fairfield, western Sydney, at around 11.40 am in January.
This year alone, there have been five verified or suspected kidnappings.
The male, 26, and the woman, 24, were allegedly kidnapped and forced into a car on January 18 by two men wearing balaclavas.
The two were abducted while they were moving toward a Court Road parking lot.
Two days later, they were able to flee from a place at Swan Bay, which is 25 kilometers northeast of Raymond Terrace. They made contact with a relative, who then alerted the police.
The male received treatment for an amputated finger, and they were both taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Detectives from Strike Force Bultje carried out two search warrants at two residences in Smithfield and Cartwright earlier this month starting at 6.45am.
A 24-year-old and a 25-year-old man were detained and escorted to the Fairfield Police Station, where they were booked on numerous charges.
In court, “Police will allege the pair were taken to a location at Swan Bay where they were held against their will,” according to police.
The elder man was also accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at a house in a different incident, which resulted in one count of property damage by fire.
When the two guys appeared in Fairfield Local Court earlier this month, bail was denied to them both.
On Monday, May 1, 2023, they will reappear before Parramatta Local Court.
It is merely the most recent in a string of abductions of a similar nature that have occurred throughout Sydney and its environs.
Unrelated to this event, Peter Vuong was allegedly kidnapped from his Smithfield home on March 9 and forced to have his teeth extracted in front of his spouse.
After five days of alleged torture, the 26-year-old was rescued by police from a Belmore residence.
Since then, six men have been accused.
